Portrait of Founders Debbie and Elaine

For nearly 30 years, Thornbloom has brought affordable luxury to the homes of our Nova Scotian clientele.

We believe in quality pieces, steeped in modern timelessness, and are proud to offer items to fit any style, any price point, and any room.

Over the years, we’ve listened to our clients to understand their needs and shifted to meet those needs. Our dedicated staff look for timeless pieces with a modern twist, and we ask ourselves one, simple question: Would I buy this for my home? We stand by the quality of every item we sell.

Not sure what piece best suits your home or style? Let one of our talented interior designers work with you to find items that best meet your functional needs, the fit in your home, and your budget.

Our Promise

At Thornbloom, we believe in quality products and customer service excellence. In fact, they’re the foundation upon which we’ve built our business.

If you are unsatisfied with a purchase or have run into problems with a product, we’re here to help.

Our Products

When we choose products, we ask ourselves on, simple question: Would I buy this for my home? Regardless of style or aesthetic, we look for top-quality pieces across a range of price points to ensure we have something for everyone.

We are proud to sell many Canadian-made products in our stores and walk the walk in our effort to support local business at every opportunity.

Our team closely watches home decor trends and listens to our clients to inform our curating decisions.

Our People

For 30 years, we’ve been honoured to work with hardworking men and women who share our founders’ commitment to bringing comfort and style to the homes of our clients.

Elaine Shortt and Debbie Morgan opened the doors at Thornbloom in May 1990 with the dream of creating the “perfect home store” in Halifax. Recent university graduates with a small budget but big dreams, Elaine and Debbie combined their retail experience and a keen eye for style to build Thornbloom into one of the city’s top home decor destinations.

Over the years, Thornbloom has become a family affair for these sisters-in-law - Debbie and Elaine married brothers! - with their children having put in time working in various roles. In April 2016, Debbie and Elaine opened a sister store - Hammock - at Sunnyside Mall, Bedford, where you can find all of the same quality you expect from Thornbloom with an easygoing, East Coast feel.

Today, the Thornbloom team is made up for 15 part- and full-time employees, actively engaged in the Spring Garden Road neighbourhood.
